Brian McManus At the age of 16, inspired by his father’s craft, Brian took an apprenticeship with J.Dykes & Sons in Glasgow, Scotland. Once qualified after 4 years, aged 20, he worked on the development of the new models before they went into production, this was unheard of for someone so young and just out of his apprenticeship to be given this responsibility.
He now has 50 years’ experience in sofa and chair design, as Development Manager, and Production Director, he’s worked with renowned companies such as Lyndon Design which made furniture for Harrods, Heals and the Crown supplies, which were supplying sofas and chairs to the British Embassies throughout the world. Group Development Manager, of 9 factories, then General Manager of 250 people, plus 18 managers/supervisors.
Teresa McCarthy, originally aspiring to be a nurse due to her kind, giving, and caring nature, took a job to fill the time before starting college.
When the time came to leave for college, the company (then Robert Vietor, later becoming Olympia Furniture) persuaded her to stay on permanently and work full-time. Thirty-five years later, Teresa co-founded The Leather Sofa Shop with Brian, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and experience in the furniture industry.
With over half a century of experience, Dave is a true expert in the trade. As a Wood Machinist, he plays a vital role in the manufacturing process, meticulously preparing wood for frame assembly at The Leather Sofa Shop’s wood mill.
Dave looks forward to seeing the Old Lace leather on his future sofa and patiently awaits the day his grandchildren are old enough to fully appreciate its timeless beauty.
With over 40 years of experience, Wayne is a skilled Upholsterer, starting his career as an apprenticeship. His daily tasks revolve around meticulously covering sofa and chair frames with high-quality fabrics and leathers, adding detailing such as fluting, pleating and studding to give a high quality finish to the design.
Wayne’s passion for the upholstery craft is particularly evident when he’s working with velvety textures like the Lovely and Plush ranges.
With over two decades of industry experience, Kieron is a highly skilled Frame Assembler. He works with premium hardwood and plywood, ensuring that every sofa, chair, and sofa bed delivers both comfort and durability.
Kieron’s dedication to The Leather Sofa Shop runs deep, as shown by his encouragement for his son, Connor, to join the business and his recent purchase of a corner sofa for his own home.
Connor’s journey at The Leather Sofa Shop reflects a proud tradition of excellence. Starting as an apprentice, he recently achieved distinction in his NVQ, marking the beginning of a promising career. As a Fabric Cutter, Connor carefully marks out and cuts materials for sofas, chairs, and footstools, ensuring precision and quality in every piece.
Driven by his passion for versatility and functionality, Connor’s favourite model is the corner sofa.
Margaret, a valued member of The Leather Sofa Shop team since 2019, brings passion and precision to her role as a Seamstress. With extensive experience working with both fabric and leather, she brings every design to life with meticulous attention to detail.
From intricate patterns to luxurious materials, Margaret consistently delivers exceptional quality, making her an invaluable part of the team.
